Costumes: Child Costumes
June 19, 2008 – 11:34 amWhen it comes down to buying child costumes for Halloween, or any other costumed event, the first concern of the parent is most likely a concern over price. As any parent knows, children are constantly growing out of clothes, both in size and in their taste for certain styles. Those who do not have unlimited funds to spend on outfits that get worn only once need a satisfactory solution that makes both their children and their bank accounts happy.
If money is an issue, there are a slew of costuming options that do not break the bank. For those parents who are handy with sewing machines, the costume riddle is solved. Making a costume from a pattern that looks like those on the racks will cost a lot less than buying off of those racks. A handmade costume only requires a few yards of fabric and maybe some crafty additions, like symbols or wings.
Other Affordable Child Costumes
Those parents who are creatively or mechanically-oriented will most likely look forward to making child costumes with their kids. There are an unending number of creative ideas for handy parents. I once made myself look like I was on a flying carpet by painting on a piece of cardboard that I wore around my waist and adding a pair of stuffed pants to the top sitting cross-legged. A friend became a bag of tea by stuffing a net full of leaves and wearing it.
On a simpler note, child costumes can really be created out of anything in the house. Clothes kids already have can double as mobster wear, gypsy garb and flower child attire. These options make it easy to transform a childs wardrobe into something they love dressing up as.
